A Great Knight: "A Knight for a Day" (1946)

Director Jack Hannah makes a funny Disney short that rivals Warner Brothers' Looney Tunes in their heyday.

Goofy is Cedric, lowly servant to the knight Sir Loinsteak. Loinsteak is about to go into a jousting contest with Sir Cumference for the hand of the Princess Esmerelda. Lionsteak is knocked unconscious, and Cedric steps into his boss' iron shoes and competes.

This short features the play by play narration that makes the Sports Goofy films so entertaining, and this had me laughing out loud despite the short running time. More care seemed to go into the comedy, from the silly names to the large cast of characters, who are all variations of Goofy.

The funniest seven minutes I have had since my prom night. (* * * * *) out of five stars.
